Roanoke County Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism and Generation Solutions present Grandparents’ Day: A Celebration of Decades Gone By at Tanglewood Mall. On September 11 from 1 PM until 6 PM you can step back in time and step to the tunes of a sock hop complete with live music from the 50’s and 60’s and contests galore! The sounds of the band “40 years After” are sure to keep you in step! Drag out some of your old favorites and come dressed to the “nines” and enter our Best Dressed contest. If you prefer a bit more action enter the Twist or Hula Hoop contests. Whatever your pleasure you can find it here! You can not only share your memories but you can make them come alive for your grandchildren.
We invite you to gather up your grandchildren and spend a very special day at an event you won’t want to miss. Do you think you and yours even look alike? If so enter our Look A like Contest just to prove you do! To make the day complete there will be hotdogs, root beer floats and sodas to enjoy. Dance lessons and a dance contest will even be thrown in with a few other surprises to keep your interest. Grandparents Day is designed for family members of all ages but especially for grandparents who wish to share the richness of their lives with their grandchildren and to grow together as a family.
A hardworking and dedicated committee will be lending their support to this event so that we can promise you a day filled with beautiful and lasting memories. All activities are free thanks to the sponsorship of Generation Solutions and Roanoke County’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism.

Roanoke County Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, along with support from a wide variety of Roanoke Valley organizations, present “Tons of Fun” at Tanglewood Mall. This family fun day of activities include clowns, puppet shows, music, magicians, games, caricatures, carnival rides, exhibits, entertainment and much more spread throughout the Mall. Tons of Fun is designed for children 12 years old and younger, with a family atmosphere.
Organizations like the Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council, Roanoke County Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, Camp Roanoke, Goodwill Industries of the Valley, Mill Mountain Zoo, June Bug Center, Good Samaritan Hospice, Joy Makers Clown Ministry, Virginia Museum of Transportation and the Roanoke Symphony are just a few of the organizations that help continue the growth and excitement of this family event. This annual event held the first Saturday in February is constantly expanding with both new attractions and new exciting entertainment for children. With over 10,000 attendees each year, you can see that there is sure to be “Tons of Fun” for all. All activities are free, thanks to the sponsorship of Tanglewood Mall, Roanoke County’s Department of Economic Development and Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. So “Dive into the Fun” and join us!
